The 2027 Tour de France Femmes’ UK Grand Départ is set to be a thrilling event, with the iconic Snake Pass climb taking center stage. Derbyshire County Council has assured the public that they will do their utmost to ensure the safety of the race, despite ongoing challenges posed by numerous active landslips on the route. This commitment comes as a relief, especially after the council's admission in January that it was uncertain if the work would be completed in time for the event.
The Snake Pass stage, part of the second stage from Manchester to Sheffield, promises to be a brutal test for the cyclists. With 154km and 2,750m of Peak District climbing, the route will challenge even the most seasoned riders. The stage will feature Winnats Pass, a brutally steep section, and several shorter but equally demanding ascents. The stage will also include a revisit to Jenkin Road, where Vincenzo Nibali descended to victory in the men's race in 2014.
The council's highways chief, Charlotte Hill, expressed her delight at the inclusion of Snake Pass, emphasizing the road's iconic status and the challenges it presents. She acknowledged the ongoing landslips and the need for long-term solutions, with the council working with the East Midlands Combined County Authority to secure the A57's viability.
The event organizers have contingency plans in place, as confirmed by a spokesperson for the Grand Départ GB 2027 and project director Lucy Jones. They are confident in their ability to bring the race to life, despite any potential challenges.
The Tour de France Femmes Avec Zwift 2027 route also includes a team time trial in London on stage three, offering a sightseeing opportunity with views of iconic landmarks. The choice of London for the team time trial was facilitated by the city's willingness to work with the organizers, making it easier to manage the logistics.
As the event draws closer, the council's commitment to ensuring a safe and successful race is crucial. With the right preparations and a bit of Peak District weather, the 2027 Tour de France Femmes promises to be an unforgettable spectacle, showcasing the best female cyclists in the world.
